No. 6 – Focus on the learning over the work
It’s easy for parents to fall into the trap of exclusively focusing on the work their child has to do and monitoring the completion of that work. However, learning is the real goal of every piece of work your child completes. Take a moment to ask your child what the purpose of each assignment is, and what they think the teacher wants them to learn and get better at as a result. Then monitor the learning, not the work.
So rather than asking “What are you doing right now?” ask questions like these:
